Melbourne Royal Horse Show 26 & 27 January 2012

This was the first occasion that we had travelled to the National Equestrian Centre at Werribee.  It is an aging facility, though had plenty of ring space, good warm up areas, big stables and plenty of power for camping.  Deb and Hayden didn't make the trip due to work commitments.   Paul was very ablely assisted by Carlie Wright and Hannah Fotheringham.  We took four horses, Bodacious Luke, Gold Dust, the 2 year old gelding Bolaro and the yearling filly Ebony.

The ANSA classes were held on the first day under Judge Julia McLean.  Bo was placed 3rd in the Led Stallion and 4th in the Hack.  Bolaro was only entered in the led gelding and was also placed third.

The ASH classes were held the next day under Brett Walsh from Queensland.  We started strongly with Bo winning the Led Stallion, Bolaro winning the Led Gelding 3 years and under and Ebony winning the Led Yearling any sex.  Bo went on to be awarded the Reserve Champion Led Stallion.

In the ridden events Hannah did a fantastic job with Bolaro taking him to a win in the Hack 3 years and under.  This was a great effort for a 2 year old.

Bo was placed 3rd in the Hack and 4th in the Working.

It was a sad occasion for us in regards to Dusty as he was sold whilst in Melbourne and will head to a new home in Queensland next week.  Dusty has been one of our favourite horses, but unfortunately with Hayden leaving School last year and starting full time work he doesn't have the time to campaign Dusty.  Hannah rode Dusty in his final event under the Camelot banner for a 2nd in the Working gelding.

Our season continues with Canberra Royal is several weeks, followed by the Nationals and then Sydney Royal.  In between the big shows we will campaign several first season horses at local Ag Shows.

Rydal Ag Show 4th February 2012

Rydal is situated between Bathurst and Lithgow and is well know for its Tulip and Daffodil Festival.   After Melbourne Royal we  decided to take a different team of horses to this Show.  We took the yearling filly Audacious (Audrey) to her first show, Hotshot a 2 year old gelding and Baseline the Palomino stallion.  Only Audrey was started in the Led events.   She won the Led Filly under Judge Julie Sharp and went on to be awarded the Champion Led ASH Exhibit.

It was the first ridden outing for Hotshot and he proved that he is something special by taking out the Open Working Gelding and 2nd in the ASH Gelding Hack.  He is a very soft going little horse with great balance and paces.  Hotshot is entered for the 2 Year Old Futurity at the Nationals in March and also Sydney Royal.  Hayden will campaign Hotshot in these events.

Paul rode Baseline for a first in the Hack and Working Stallion and going on to take Reserve Champion in both of these disciplines.

Both Audrey and Hotshot are featured on our Sale Page.  Their next outing will be at the Central Tablelands Branch Show at Gulgong on the 17th of February if you would like to inspect these horses.  Hotshot will also be at Canberra Royal the following week though not competing.  We thought that we would take him away for the week that we are at Canberra as it would act as an ideal warm-up for the Nationals in Tamworth the following week.
