7 January 2010

Our Breeding Season has just completed with 9 foals on the ground.  Photos of the foals are on the Breeding Page of this site.  Each year we campaign a colt & filly from the crop of foals.  It will be a difficult decision this year with the high quality of foals that have been produced.  All of the fillies will be retained and the colts offered for sale.

We covered 14 of our mares this season using Bodacious Luke, Jaylyn Downs Western, Vet School Spotlight and Boonderoo Blackwood.  Debbie has put her foot down and said that this is too many mares and half of them have to go.  At this stage Emma Bruce, Melody Ray, Silverthorn Moss Rose and Elaneor will be offered for sale.

On the weekend we attended the Gulgong Ag Show which also incorporated the Central Tablelands Branch Show.   The Judge was Teena Bridge from Manilla.  There were over 70 stock horses in attendance, many being fine tuned for the upcoming Royal Shows. It was the debut of our black Yearling Colt, Camelot Real Wonder.   He didn't disappointed and won the Led Yearling event from a classy field of Yearlings.  The two year old Firelight won the Led Gelding under 3 years and then went on to be placed 2nd in the 3 Year Old Hack and another 2nd in the Open Gelding Hack.   This little horse is bound for a great future.  Camelot First Impression won the Open Hack Mare and Ozi Bodacious Luke won the Hack Stallion and went on to be awarded the Reserve Champion Hack.  Hayden and Russler had a strong day winning the Open Led Gelding and also the Hack ridden by Child under 18 years.   It was an excellent day with trophies for every event.    Unfortunately we had other commitments at home and had to leave prior to the Working Classes.  Congratulations to the Central Tablelands Branch on one of the strongest and best organised events we have attended in some time.   This week we travel to Canberra Royal and Bathurst Royal the week after.

This year we took Bodacious Luke, Firelight, First Impression and Russler to Canberra Royal Show.  The Judge was Susan Wilson of Glen Lee Stud at Gilgandra.  Bo started the program with the ridden ANSA Hack 15 - 16hh on Thursday.    There were over 50 horses in the class. He looked and worked magnificantly as shown in the photos, but unfortunately was out of the placings.   The Led ASH classes were on Friday morning.   Earlier that morning Bo fell whilst being lunged on the wet grass and was lame for his Led Class.  Firelight was placed 2nd in the 2 Year Old Gelding.   Later in the day First Impression and Firelight were both in the 3 Year and Under Hack.  Paul rode Impression in the first heat and was called in 4th, and then changed to Firelight who was called in first in second heat.   Firelight worked to perfection to retain first place overall and Impression was placed 4th.   Firelight's win was a great follow-up to his Champion Ridden 2 Year Old Title at the NSW ASH Show.  Firelight who is For Sale would be be a great asset to any competition home.  On Saturday Hayden competed in the Hack and Working Gelding classes.   He was placed 5th in the Working.  Bo was placed 2nd in the Stallion Hack from a very classy field of Stallions.   Next week we'll take 5 horses to Bathurst Royal on Saturday and another team of young horses to Koorawatha Ag Show on Sunday.

Naomi and I would like to express our ongoing delight many months after purchasing Camelot Rivoli Sports Star. We have campaigned this little 3 year old lightly throughout 2009 and he has started 2010 on another winning spree. As you know we have had many well performed horses over the years and I must congratulate your family on how Cody (as we call him) has been broken in and the manners of the little boy. He is a delight to own and take out to a show. Naomi and I are off to the Royal and we realise that it is a big ask for such a young boy, who will have to go out and compete with the big guns, but we have no worries that  after the first shock of stepping onto the main arena he will not only make us proud but the wonderful Camelot Stockhorse stud. Once again congratulations and we would refer anyone to your stud with confidence. Will let you know how the little boy performs at Sydney, remember Cody is only a “buby” and it’s all about how we handles himself NOT the ribbon. I am sure Naomi, Cody and I will have a fantastic time whatever happens.
Regards,

Vicki Anderson and Naomi Pigot-Baker

Hey Paul

Just thought I would pass this on.  Buddy did very well at Oberon Show on the weekend with Champion Led, Champion Ridden and Reserve Working (my fault with a wrong leg lead)

I am very, very happy with him.  He was a perfect angel all day.  I am very proud of him.

8 July 2010

Final preparations are being done for our trip to Warwick in Queensland for the ASH Nationals on the 31st of July.  Paul and Hayden will make the trip with 5 horses between them and will compete in 18 events.   We will take Bodacious Luke, the yearling colt Real Wonder, 3 year old filly First Impression, 2 year old gelding Firelight and Russler.   The trip will take 2 days and we'll arrive a couple of days prior to the event.   The temperature at home hasn't been above 8 degrees for the past couple of weeks, so we hope our horses can present as well as the warmer climate horses.   Good luck to everyone attending the Nationals
On Saturday the 31st of July 2010 we competed at the ASH Nationals at Warwick in Queensland.   We took two days to travel to Queensland with an overnight stop in Narrabri.   We arrived on the Tuesday afternoon and set up camp.  This was the only dry day of the week.  Saturday was a very wet day, but the all weather surface, of the famous Campdraft arena allowed all events to run as normal.  The day started for us with the Led Yearling Colt where Real Wonder was placed 2nd in a classy field of youngsters under Judge Hugh Cameron.   The week away was great for Wonder who started his ridden career the week earlier.  This year had one of the strongest attendances of stallions.  Bo was placed 4th in the Led, 2nd in the Stallion Hack and 5th in the Working.   Congratulations to Sam Davidge who's stallion Jindalee Cassanova went on to win the Supreme Champion Hack of the Show.  The 2 year old gelding Firelight didn't enjoy the lake type conditions and was placed 3rd in his Hack Class.  There was also a strong representation of quality 3 year old Filly's.   First Impression was 4th in her Hack Class and also 4th in the Working Filly.  The atmosphere at these type of events is always very friendly and it was great to catch up with old friends and also meet new acquaintances.  We took 2 days to travel home and arrived back to a lovely snowfall.   We have a run of local Ag Shows commencing in a couple of weeks with our next main ASH event being the State Show in Scone in mid October.
16 August 2010

This week saw the sale of 3 horses.  Riverdale Russler was sold to Carly Longbottom of Singleton.  Rus will be used for Dressage, Hacking and ASH events.   The day after Carly took delivery of Rus she attended an event at Merriwa where she won her Hack Class and was placed 2nd in her Riding Class.  Carly and Rus will make a great combination and will certainly feature in years to come.

Jaylyn Downs Western was sold to Kate Wright of Bonnet Bay, Sydney.  Kate is currently studying Agriculture at Charles Sturt University in Orange and will use Western for Eventing.

The stunning Thoroughbred gelding Wrangler was sold to Joanne Krog and her daughter Elizabeth of Kernot in Victoria.   Elizabeth will campaign Wrangler as a New Comer Hack.   This horse is all quality and is bound for Royal Show success.

With the departure of these horses we will now bring in other young stock to commence their education and Sale / Show preparation.
14 August 2010

We have had fantastic rain over the past week with dams that haven't been full for 10 years breaking their banks.   The spring feed will be a great kick start for our youngstock.   There are 7 foals due this season.  Some of those mares are available for sale now at great prices.  Due to our cold climate, foaling will not commence until late October.  Last week we were still receiving sleet.   From our property we can see snow capped Mount Canobolas which is about 15km away.  Pictured is Hugh and Hayden who took advantage of the big wet to go knee-boarding in a paddock that usually doesn't have a dam.   The temperature that day was 4 degrees.
Mudgee Agricultural Show

On Saturday the 4th of September we took 4 horses to the re-developed Mudgee Showground for their Annual Show.  Vicki Mascord judged the Stock Horses whilst Jacki Mascord Judged the Galloway and Hack ring.  Real Wonder started the day by winning the Led 3 Year Colt class and went on to take out the Reserve Champion ASH.   This was the 2 year old's first outing under saddle. He was placed second in the 3 year Hack Class and 2nd in the Novice Hack.  Bodacious Luke won the Led Stallion and was latter awarded the Supreme Champion Led Exhibit.  Bo wasn't shown under saddle so that Paul could focus on Wonder and Firelight's ridden events.  Hayden has now taken over First Impression after the sale of Russler.   Hayden won the Junior Hack and Junior Working classes.  He will now look forward to the Junior Nationals in several weeks.  The 3 year old Firelight was the star of the day.   He won the 3 year old Hack class and the Hack Under 15hh.  He was latter awarded the Champion ASH Hack from a quality field.  Firelight also won the 3 year old working and went on to be awarded the Reserve Champion Working Horse.  Firelight was also campaigned in the Open Galloway ring where he was awarded the Reserve Champion Galloway.  Paul rode Firelight in his riding class for a win and was also awarded the Champion Adult Rider of the Show.  Firelight is currently for sale and would make a very worthy addition to any Show Team.  Special thanks go to Joe and Lou Best for co-ordinating a great event.  Great trophies and prizemoney were on offer and the re-developed grounds handled the wet conditions well.

6 September 2010

Montcalm Jonquill has been sold to Tracey Fearn of Queensland.  Jonquill will go to Allan Wallan for training for several weeks and will then be campaigned by Tracey's daughter in ASH events, Hacking and Dressage.  She is a real quality mare that will have great success in the future.

22 September 2010

Paul, Hayden and Hugh will head off on a 2 week trip next week with Bodacious Luke, Real Wonder and First Impression.   The first stop will be a three day Youth Training School at Craig and Jenelle Young's property in Gloucester.  The Youngs operate the very successful Cedervale ASH Stud.  Instructors at the School will include Gerald O Brien, Belinda Bailey and Ellie Scruton.   Skills covered will include Dressage, Hacking and Campdrafting.   The next stop will be the Eastern Branch ASH Championships at the Singleton Showground on the long weekend.   From there we head back to Gloucester for the ASH Youth National Titles which is a mid week event.  The last event is the NSW State ASH Show at Scone on the 9th and 10th of October.

4 October

Last weekend we attended the Eastern ASH Branch Championships at Singleton.  This was one of the strongest events that we have attended in some time with over 30 entries in most classes.  The 2 year old colt Real Wonder started the day being awarded the Reserve Champion Led Colt under Judge Ken Turner.  Wonder worked well under saddle and the highlight of his day was taking 4th place in the Maiden Hack from a field of 52 horses.   Bodacious Luke won the Hack Stallion under Judge Helen Batterman and 2nd in the Working Stallion.  The new combination of Hayden and First Impression are improving with every outing, but finished out of the placings.   It was great to see Carly Longbottom having lots of fun on Russler and taking 3rd place in the Dressage.

NSW State ASH Show 2010

On the 9th and 10th of October we attended the State Show at Scone.  It is always a great facility to hold an event with good stabling, camping and exhibition areas.  From the quality and volume of horses it would appear that many people are setting their horses for the World Championships to be held in Tamworth next May.   Bodacious Luke competed in the Silver Champaign Stakes on Saturday, which is an event that consists of a Led, Hack and Working Section.   It is open to any age and sex and had about 60 competitors.  Bo was successfull in winning the Hack section and we received a Trophy Jacket from RM Williams.   He also was awarded the Reserve Champion Led Stallion.  Real Wonder competed in the Led 2 Year Old colt and was awarded 2nd.   He also secured second in the 2 Year Old Hack.  On the Sunday First Impression competed in both the Hack and Working Mare Classes where she was awarded 2nd in both events.   Bo was also placed 3rd in the Working Stallion.Prior to the start of the State Show, Paul and Bo took the oportuity to receive tuition from NSW Dressage Junior Rider Camilla Dawson.  Camilla has recently returned from a Junior Dressage Development Program in Germany.   Camilla is coached in Australia by Rosie Ryan.  Camilla's input certainly had a major influence in Bo winning the Hack Section of the Silver Champaign Stakes

Jondel Belladean has recently joined our Show Team and will be campaigned by Hayden.   She is a registered ASH and ANSA mare.  She has had Royal Show success both as a Show Hunter and in ANSA.   She was bred and broken in by Ty Bauer and then campaigned in ASH events by Allan Wallan and ANSA events by Allen Willett.   For the past three years she has been owned by Eliza McDougall of Brisbane where her primary focus has been Dressage and Hacking.
Paul on Wonder and Hugh on Dusty at the Gloucester Youth Camp
During the recent school holidays Hayden attended a Junior Development Camp at Cedervale Stud in Gloucester.  The camp focused on Dressage, Hacking and Campdrafting   Pictured in the group photo having a break is Hayden on Impression, Hannah Fotheringham (National Champion 15 - 18 years), David Olsen (National top 5), Wyatt Young (National Champion 13 - 15 years), Phillip Main (ABCRA Junior Campdraft Champion) and Tom O Brien an up and coming young horseman the son of Gerald and Kyra O Brien.  It was very apparrent during the camp that the success of these young riders is not a matter of luck.  They all train 7 days a week, working several horses a day and are totally focused on their sport, yet are supportive of each other.  Hugh, our youngest son doesn't usually ride.  He took the oportunity of taking Dusty our buckskin gelding to the camp to ride around the beautiful property of Craig and Janelle Young.
On the 30th of October we attended Carcoar Ag Show.   We saw it as an opportunity to take several new members of the team and they didn't disappoint.   It was the first outing for the yearling Bolaro.   He won the Led Gelding under 3 years and was later awarded Reserve Champion gelding.   It was also the first Show for Gold Dust.  He was placed second in the Led Gelding, Reserve Champion Hack and Champion Working horse.  Our new mare Jondel Belladean had a great day winning the Champion Led Mare and Champion Hack.  Real Wonder continues to impress by winning the Champion Led Stallion, 1st in the 3 Year and under Hack and 1st in the Hack over 15hh.  Wonder has been listed for Sale and features on the Sale Page.

On the 6th and 7th of November we attended the NSW State Junior ASH Titles at Gulgong.   This was a one horse / one rider event which made for a very relaxing weekend.  Hayden rode Gold Dust in the 15 - 18 year age group.    The competition was extremely strong in all age groups.  The titles consisted of Dressage, Hacking, Working, Time Trial, Campdraft and Sporting events.   It is a testament to the breed that the majority of children participated in all disciplines.  Hayden had success in Dressage where he was placed 4th.  Our spring season is coming to a close with only 2 events remaining.

10 November 2010

Our first foal of the season has arrived.   This is a black filly by Bodacious Luke from Aint She Great.   She was born in a snow flurry a week ago hence the name Camleot Black Ice.

Saturday 13 November 2010

We attended Neville Show which is a small village near Blayney.   It was only a small program so we decided only to take the grey mare Belladean.   She had a great day winning the Led ASH, Champion Galloway and Paul was awarded the Reserve Champion Adult Rider.

Over the past couple of days several of our horses have shown early symptoms of Greasy Heel due to the constant wet conditions.   It is only occuring on the legs with white socks.  One mare in particular is very lame and swollen in the fetlock joint.   We have now taken the precaution of applying a moisture resistant barrier cream to all white socks.

Sunday 14 November 2010

Margaret and David Wright of Cargo have taken delivery of
the 2 year old black colt Real Wonder.   The Wrights are a
very experienced Dressage family and Wonder will be used
in their Warmblood breeding program.   He will also still
be campaigned in ASH events.   We wish them the very best
for the future.

On the 20th of November we attended ESH Championships at the Hawkesbury Showground.  The inaugral event was a great success with 7 Rings in operation for the day.  Although Stock Horses entries were low the quality was high.  Belladean was awarded the Reserve Champion Led Mare and also the Reserve Champion Working Horse.  Hayden rode Gold Dust and won the Hack and Working Gelding classes. Congratulations to Wyatt Young and his great mare Cedervale Noire in taking out the Supreme Led and Ridden Exhibit under Judge Adam Wellington.  We strongly recommend this event as a must for next season with great prizes and trophies.

6 December 2010

At the weekend Paul attended the Annual Dalby ASH Sale.  There he purchased 2 new horses for the Stud.   The first was a very typey nine year old mare Gemridge Ellmac by Glencoe Abstract out of Rosebrook Fashion.   She has had considerable Campdraft experience with consistant scores in the high 80s.   She will continue to be campaigned and latter used as a broodmare.  The second horse is a 4 year old 15hh bay gelding Banshee Explorer.  He has bloodlines of Star Black Minstral, Rivoli Ray and Rays Swagman.  Explorer was prepared for the Sale by Jim Daley, the winner of the 2010 Warwick Gold Cup Stallion Campdraft.  Explorer will commence his Show career in Autumn and will then be offered for sale.

7 December 2010

We have added a new ASH Stallion to our Stud with the purchase of a 15.3hh Palomino Luckenough Baseline.  This horse is exceptionally well bred being by Kinchela Romeos Repeat by Warrenbri Romeo out of Luckenough Karena who has bloodlines of Elliots Creek Cadet and Abbey.  His sire has won the Warwick Gold Cup Stallion Draft and was a finalist in the Gold Cup.  His Dam has twice been awarded the ABCRA Campdraft Horse of the Year and was a finalist in the Gold Cup in 2001.  Baseline has been lightly campaigned for several Champions in Led and Ridden events.  He is extremely quiet and would make a great sire for anyone wanting to breed a performance horse.   He is standing this season for $750.
